Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary
Naples Florida
I have a thing for many things in Nature, swamps being one of them. But even more so than swamps is my love for Old Growth Forests and trees. Old growth forests covered so much of the United States before white man came but have since been cut down. Florida had its share of old growth forests. One small grove of Bald Cypress trees still remains at Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples Florida. These bald cypress trees are huge rising into the sky, covered with strangler fig vines. I love the buttressed roots of the cypress trees that extend out from their trunks. It is a wonder to behold and amazing to think that one time these majestic forests covered much of Florida. It was one of the most beautiful places I have been too. If you are in the area put on your to do list. I will be sharing more photos but wanted to start off with some photos of the swamp sanctuary to give you a sense of this beautiful place.
