The New Year is all about fresh starts and this year I am offering a fresh start photo tune up series of 4 (1) hour classes to help you hone your photo skills and better use the functions of your camera to take images you will be proud of.

This 4 series class will go over the camera exposure modes, focus modes and light meter modes to best use for the situations at hand and help deliver higher “keeper rates” when it comes to your photos.

Personalized attention and review of your images will be a part of class 4 to see what camera settings were used to take the image as well as tips and pointers on how to do an even better time next time.

This series of four (1) hour classes will help correct any shooting habits and fine tune your shooting to build a good foundation for your 2026 photo taking season ahead.

$50 for the (4) series of 1-hour classes. All classes will be conducted via zoom.

7pm to 8pm. Tuesday January 19,26 and February 3,10

Class 1 Achieving proper exposure with (A and Av), (S and TV) and M modes, auto iso, and exposure compensation

A properly exposed image is most important as one of the first decisions to make regarding what exposure mode to use. Each mode has its strengths and reason to use depending on the subject, shooting circumstances and conditions and desired result. We will explore these settings and modes and how to use them. Your camera has many light metering modes as well to determine exposure. We will explore some of them and which ones to use for the best accuracy. The histogram is a great tool to determine proper exposure of your images. Other tools like “blinkies” can be used as well. We will dive into understanding the histogram to determine proper exposure.

Class 2 Using aperture and shutter speeds as creating tools to achieve more dynamic images. Shooting with intention using pre-visualization and determining what settings to use accordingly.

Class 3 Achieving proper focus

Achieving proper focus is not as easy as it seems. Many factors can affect the sharpness of an image including aperture chosen, shutter speed chosen, lens focal length, subject to camera distance, focus mode chosen, focus points selected and focus position. In this class we will explore how all these settings affect image sharpness and what settings to choose to achieve the desired results.

Class 4 Image Review

Each student will submit a minimum of 5 images to be reviewed using the photos metadata for the shutter speed, aperture and Iso settings chosen by each student. These settings will help us understand why photos look the way they do and what settings to choose to bring about the desired results. Other tips and pointers for composition, shooting angles will be provides as well
